Overview

Our client is a very established and growing consultancy seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer who is looking to rise to the challenge of acting as a technical discipline lead in the data centre sector and become a permanent member of their Building Engineering Team.

As an integral member of their multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for the mechanical design packages and overall mechanical discipline, taking them from initial brief through scheme and detail design to installation and commissioning support. This role will harness your core data centre skills and experience to provide technical guidance on discipline-specific data centre projects, as well as mentoring and developing junior colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Leading the planning and managing the delivery of the mechanical work packages on medium and large-scale complex projects
  • Ensuring all designs and documents are prepared and reviewed to the highest standards
  • Leading projects and working closely with the data centre clients to deliver quality work to meet their specific needs
  • Presenting technical material for review by technical and non-technical audiences
  • Contributing to conceptual design studies and reports for your discipline and package
  • Developing and mentoring junior team members in their career development, including technical and soft skills
  • Managing finances and staffing resources to ensure successful delivery of projects within agreed budgets and timescales
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to maximise experience at the local, regional, and global levels
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (preferably to Masters level) with Chartership status (CIBSE / IMechE)
  • Experienced in data centre and other mission critical systems and facilities
  • Accomplished engineer with a track record of leading complex mechanical engineering projects and a strong ability to communicate with the team and clients through sketching, drawing and writing
  • Competent in designing software packages
