We are currently seeking a Principal Design Engineer Test Equipment with extensive Motor Controller and Motor Design Test experience to join our team within Collins Aerospace Electronic Controls and Motor Systems (ECMS), Solihull.

Job Description

We offer a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Motors and Controller team. This key engineering role will lead the concept development and design of high-performance motors and controllers on key technology programs aligned with the future needs of our Aerospace customers.

A key aspect of the role is developing and leading highly effective teams that will deliver best-in-class technology and products supporting clean aviation technologies, including hybrid aircraft propulsion systems.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will ensure engineering excellence, support design assurance, and process adherence.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Support independent design assurance activities such as design reviews, MRB, CMB reviews & approval of engineering documents.
  • Support project development teams to ensure the technical integrity of products.
  • Attend and contribute to design reviews, ensuring they are held and recorded according to Collins ECMS procedures.
  • Support and lead resolution of problem reports, FRACAS, or customer technical issues through root cause analysis tools and processes.
  • Help ensure engineering excellence across the mechanical engineering discipline by capturing lessons learned, promoting best practices, creating standard work, and mentoring the engineering team.
  • Support product definition and task tailoring for Collins ECMS product development.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Proven ability to lead and build successful Design Engineering Teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver rapid prototype designs.
  • Proven ability to deliver flight-standard high technology products.
  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • More than 12 years of relevant aerospace experience with significant responsibilities.
  • Experience with design assurance processes and airworthiness requirements.
  • Understanding of engineering materials and production methods.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace Configuration Control Management.
  • Effective communication skills, both formal and informal, with peers, team members, and senior management.
  • Ability to produce and deliver technical presentations at all levels.
