We are currently seeking a Principal Design Engineer Test Equipment with extensive Motor Controller and Motor Design Test experience to join our team within Collins Aerospace Electronic Controls and Motor Systems (ECMS) , Solihull.

Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Motors and Controller team. This key engineering role will lead concept development and design of high-performance motors and controllers on key technology programs aligned to the future needs of our Aerospace customers.

A key aspect of the role is developing and leading highly effective teams that will deliver best in class technology and products that support clean aviation technologies including hybrid aircraft propulsion systems.

As a Principal Mechanical engineer you have responsibility ensure engineering excellence, support design assurance and process adherence

Principle Accountabilities

Support independent design assurance activities such as design reviews, MRB, CMB reviews & approval of Engineering documents.

Support project development teams with ensuring the technical integrity of products.

Attend and contribute to design reviews, help ensure they are held and recorded in accordance with Collins ECMS procedures.

Support / lead resolution of problem reports, FRACAS or Customer technical issues through the use of root cause analysis tools and processes.

Help ensure engineering excellence across the mechanical engineering discipline through capturing lessons learned, ensuring best practice, creation of standard work, assisting with the mentoring and development of the engineering team.

Support the product definition process and task tailoring required for the development of Collins ECMS products.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proven ability to lead and build a successful Design Engineering Team.
  • Proven ability to deliver flight standard high technology Products.
  • Should be educated to Degree or equivalent level in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • >12 years relevant aerospace experience with significant levels of responsibility.
  • Should have experience of design assurance processes and supporting airworthiness requirements.
  • Must have an understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them.
  • Mus be familiar with Aerospace Configuration Control Management
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, formally and informally with peer group, other team members and senior management.
  • Must be able to produce and deliver technical presentations to employees and customers at any level.
