Job Description:

ROLE - Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION - Dorset

TERM - Permanent

SALARY - £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

My client designs and manufactures specialist equipment and precision parts. They are looking to hire a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Dorset on a permanent basis.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

• At least 5 years of experience in a similar CAD Design / Mechanical Development role
• Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Knowledge of machinery, robotics, rotating equipment, and precision components
• Experience in a manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.
• Strong theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge including core principles and tight tolerances
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small multidisciplinary team

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing concepts and producing technical drawings using CAD
• Reverse engineering, product development, testing, and prototyping
• Collaborating with manufacturing providers
• Participating in final assembly processes
• Creating design documentation and project reports/plans
• Updating 3D models and drawings
• Inputting parts into the MRP system and creating BOMs
• Reviewing drawings for approval
• Working on various projects within a small multidisciplinary team
