Job Description:

Role: Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Dorset

Term: Permanent

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

My client designs and manufactures specialist equipment and precision parts. They are looking to hire a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Dorset on a permanent basis.

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least 5 years of experience in a CAD Design / Mechanical Development role
• A qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar (Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ)
• Knowledge of machinery, robotics, rotating equipment, and precision components
• Experience in a manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.
• Strong theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge and experience with tight tolerances
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and in a small multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities:

• Design using CAD and produce technical drawings
• Reverse engineering, product development, testing, and prototyping
• Liaising with manufacturing providers
• Involvement in final product assembly
• Creating design documentation and project reports/plans
• Updating 3D models and drawings
• Inputting parts into the MRP system and creating BOMs
• Checking drawings for approval
• Collaborating within a small multidisciplinary team on various projects
