My client is recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer in the Water Sector.

The role will be based in our Birmingham office; we will also consider applications for our Hemel Hempstead office or potentially Ireland.

We are seeking a Principal Design Engineer (Mechanical) to join our Water design team. The successful candidate will be part of a growing team, with opportunities to influence the direction of an expanding business to meet the challenges of the AMP8 programme, as well as strategic development for AMP9 and beyond.

The Principal Design Engineer (Mechanical) will have a client-facing role. Key responsibilities include:

1. Leading and developing a team of junior engineers across multiple locations
2. Leading the mechanical design of water projects, including wastewater treatment, clean water treatment, industrial wastewater treatment, and biosolids treatment
3. Managing design & project execution from conceptual phase through to completion, ensuring compliance with client standards
4. Developing preliminary and detailed design calculations
5. Creating design drawings and specifications
6. Producing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design reports
7. Handling balance of plant design
8. Designing and implementing energy-saving projects
9. Participating in HAZID/HAZOP and LOPA studies

Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

• An engineering degree (Hons bachelor's or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline
• Extensive postgraduate and relevant design experience
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant institution
• Experience in the Water Industry
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• A good academic record
• A full clean driving license and own transport
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
