Job Description

At AECOM, we're delivering a better world through infrastructure projects that improve communities worldwide. We are seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Data Centres Market Sector, focusing on technical delivery of data centre projects for tech firms across the UK and globally. This role involves leading mechanical projects within a multidisciplinary team, maintaining AECOM's position in the Hyperscale and Co-location segments of the Data Centre market, and contributing to strategic sector growth and thought leadership.

The role can be based in Belfast, Manchester, Cardiff, St Albans, or London.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead mechanical aspects of data centre projects, providing technical expertise.
  2. Ensure project deliverables meet client needs and standards.
  3. Demonstrate creativity and sector engineering judgment in problem-solving.
  4. Define project objectives, organize schedules, manage teams, and develop standards and guidelines.
  5. Oversee technical delivery strategies, including setting standards, mentoring, and knowledge transfer.
  6. Monitor project risks and KPIs, assisting in issue resolution.
  7. Ensure seamless delivery of mechanical services across the region.
  8. Engage with clients to understand their business and adapt to market changes.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in Mechanical project delivery within Data Centres and Mission Critical Environments.
  • Proven client-facing technical experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Mechanical design, engineering practices, and interface with clients.
  • Strong commercial acumen and project financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good understanding of project success factors.
Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with CIBSE or similar institute.
