Job Description:

Role Overview: We have an exciting opportunity within the Manufacturing Engineering function for a Principal Manufacturing Engineer at Leonardo. You will develop, improve, and support manufacturing processes and equipment to enable world-class production. Responsibilities include developing robust solutions, planning and delivering work, providing technical advice, and mentoring team members. This role is focused on Delivery (Sustaining).

Location & Work Environment: Based in Edinburgh, with a mix of home and on-site work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop manufacturing processes based on product requirements, research, design, modify, and test methods and equipment.
  • Organize Manufacturing Maturity Reviews and maintain governance through the Lifecycle Management process.
  • Provide decision-making information, review production schedules, labor, and material costs.
  • Prepare reports by analyzing data and trends.
  • Resolve complex product and production issues efficiently.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency through capacity analysis, workflow planning, and layout optimization.
  • Review and contribute to manufacturing documentation and risk assessments.
  • Ensure product and process quality through design, validation, and standards.
  • Participate in failure investigations and maintain manufacturing data accuracy.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement activities and projects.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members and promote best practices.
  • Support customer engagement and product roadmaps with domain expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations.

Minimum Requirements:
  • HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
  • People management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and support data-driven decisions.
  • Understanding of operational frameworks and cross-functional processes.
  • Experience across multiple product lifecycle phases and peer review processes.
  • Strong communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
  • Experience in capability and process development, and implementing change.
