Job Description
The Systems Engineering function ensures that both project and statutory requirements are suitably met and works to improve the effectiveness of the systems engineering approach within the company. It is responsible for system requirements, architecture, design, and integration of solutions. The role also involves designing for cost and manufacturability.
Main Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the full lifecycle verification and validation activities required to formally evidence complex solutions as part of a systems engineering approach.
- Create and maintain Systems V&V artefacts such as strategies, plans, procedures, matrices, and reports to ensure desired outcomes.
- Carry out Systems V&V activities in accordance with artefacts to ensure successful internal, qualification, and acceptance events.
- Support environmental qualification activities, including coordination with in-house and external test houses.
- Transfer knowledge to System Engineers to support environmental testing processes at internal and external events.
- Support the design, development, and maintenance of supporting test equipment.
- Ensure safety aspects are managed for V&V events and facilities.
- Participate actively as a key stakeholder in design reviews.
- Manage external V&V facilities/test houses, including organising EMC and TEMPEST qualification and developing test harnesses.
- Maintain technical knowledge through training and contribute to process improvements.
- Provide specialist knowledge and support to the wider engineering team.
- Lead, mentor, and coach V&V engineers and non-technical resources, sharing knowledge constructively.
- Manage information security in accordance with regulations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Line management of a team of systems engineers (2-6) and discipline engineers (1-5), overseeing their development and tasking.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert in specific areas such as product, technology, tooling, or practices.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or relevant defence industry experience.
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering and V&V of hardware, software, and firmware solutions.
- Experience with INCOSE/ISO 15288 standards for complex solutions.
- Desirable: Experience in Defence/Aerospace or safety-regulated environments.
- Scripting skills in JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Perl, Bash, Rest, MySQL.
- Familiarity with development approaches like Agile, SCRUM, TDD, BDD, ATDD, hybrid models.
- Ability to design special test equipment and contribute to safety and security of test environments.
- Knowledge of environmental facilities and their operation.
- Experience in cost estimation for bids and change processes.
- Active engagement with professional publications and organizations.
