Job summary

Centrica plc is seeking a Principal Engineer to shape customer contact technology across voice, chat, email and WhatsApp. You’ll lead within the Channel Platforms team, set engineering standards, and stay hands-on with designs and complex builds to elevate the platform.

You’ll coach senior engineers, drive reusable solutions, and align technical decisions with a customer-centric approach while collaborating across UK offices in a hybrid role.

An opportunity to play your part - As a Principal Engineer at Centrica, you’ll help shape the future of our customer contact technology across voice, chat, email and WhatsApp. Working within our Channel Platforms team, you’ll provide technical leadership across an AWS-native platform built around Amazon Connect and Amazon Bedrock, setting clear standards and ensuring our squads solve problems consistently and with the customer firmly at the centre. This isn’t leadership from the side-lines. You’ll stay hands-on, reviewing designs, pairing on complex builds, testing new ideas and solving challenging technical problems, while coaching senior engineers and raising engineering standards across the platform.

Location – Hybrid role with some travel required to UK offices.

The Day to day – Set the technical direction and engineering standards for Amazon Connect across multiple squads and business areas. Provide deep expertise across an AWS-native contact centre platform, including Amazon Connect and Amazon Bedrock. Champion consistent engineering approaches, ensuring common challenges are solved effectively and reusable solutions are adopted across teams. Stay hands-on with the technology, reviewing designs, pairing on complex builds and developing technical spikes to prove new ideas. Lead through influence and collaboration, working closely with engineering teams to shape solutions across the wider customer contact stack. Keep the customer at the heart of technical decisions, helping deliver high-quality experiences across voice, chat, email and WhatsApp. Coach and mentor senior engineers, raising engineering standards, sharing knowledge and building strong technical capability across squads.
