Job description

Shared Application Services (SAS) is a rapidly expanding area within the Home Office, focused on application development and support using cutting-edge technologies.

As part of the DDaT’s SAS Level 2 (L2) Support Team, you will monitor the Home Office’s core technology, infrastructure, applications, and services, providing 24/7/365 support and recovery.

You will contribute to technical estate management, leveraging modern technologies, methodologies, and service management best practices. The team aims to develop intelligent solutions for real-time monitoring, automation, and service industrialisation, with a focus on AI and automation to improve efficiency and outcomes.

As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will be a technical leader, shaping strategic and tactical engineering roadmaps, ensuring future-ready technologies and services, and maximizing value from investments.

You will promote engineering best practices, foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and empower teams to adopt advanced approaches.

You may manage operational relationships with suppliers, ensuring services meet industry standards, regulations, and contractual obligations.

You will lead infrastructure teams in designing, developing, supporting, and maintaining solutions aligned with policies and strategic goals. Collaborating with technical architects, you will influence service design and operability.

Your responsibilities include workforce planning, budgeting, technology road mapping, and project delivery.

What you will do

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing operational feedback to ensure designs meet infrastructure needs.
  • Supporting security by embedding controls into solutions and services.
  • Investigating and resolving problems, implementing solutions, and preventing future issues.
  • Establishing standards and procedures across the service lifecycle and managing resources effectively.
  • Shaping engineering best practices and standards.

Note: As services are maintained 24/7, occasional out-of-hours work may be required, for which additional pay is provided.
