About the Project or About the Team:

AtkinsRéalis is at the heart of energy industry challenges. Our Energy Networks team is growing, delivering work across the UK’s Transmission and Distribution sectors, offshore wind, and HVDC interconnectors. We are expanding our team and recruiting a Principal HV Cable Design Engineer.

What you’ll be doing?

In our fast-paced, innovative environment, you will develop your career through a variety of projects and technologies. Reporting to the HV Cable Specialist, you will work within our Energy Networks team. Our offices are in Epsom, London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Glasgow, but the role is flexible and UK-wide. Building trusted relationships is essential. You will interact with clients, understand their needs, and turn opportunities into successful projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as cable engineer for multi-disciplinary project delivery.
  • Deliver concept design, FEED, feasibility, and detailed design projects and bids.
  • Ensure projects meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements, satisfying clients.
  • Review HV cable aspects of various projects, including onshore, offshore export cables, and interconnectors.
  • Contribute to bids and tenders, producing HV cable technical offers under tight deadlines.
  • Participate in design and hazard reviews, producing HV cable design packages.
  • Attend site visits, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Focus on customer needs and business development.
  • Engage in industry working groups like CIGRE, IEEE.
  • Develop external and internal relationships.

You’ll need to have:

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status through IET is desirable.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in design, manufacture, and testing of HV cables for HVAC and HVDC projects, onshore and offshore.
  • Experience in HV cable system design and ratings (CYMCAP).
  • Knowledge of IEC cable standards and CIGRE policies and specifications.
  • Experience witnessing third-party cable activities (testing, installation, transport).
  • Experience with large, complex cable projects.
  • Participation in industry working groups and technical committees like CIGRE, IEEE.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
