Job description

We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, accepting of all, and free from discrimination and bias.

We have a simple vision and strategy that defines our goals, purpose, and approach, underpinning the principles of Adult Social Care. All our work should support the strategy: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources, and abilities available to people’.

Our Values

In line with our One Coventry Values, we aim to ensure our communities are represented across our workforce. We are committed to being a truly inclusive organization that encourages diversity of thought and background. We especially welcome applicants from minority ethnic, LGBT+, disabled, and neurodiverse communities to help us make a positive difference for our residents, keeping equity and respect at the core of our work.

Our Values are:

  • Open and fair: We are fair, open, and transparent.
  • Nurture and develop: We help and encourage everyone to excel.
  • Engage and empower: We listen and work together as one.
  • Create and innovate: We embrace new ways to improve.
  • Own and be accountable: We deliver the best services for our residents.
  • Value and respect: We prioritize diversity and inclusion in all we do.

Job Role

Coventry City Council is recruiting a Principal Home Improvement Officer for the Adaptations Team, which collaborates with Occupational Therapists to administer the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG). This grant helps disabled individuals adapt their homes for safety and independence, such as installing ramps or widening doors.

With surveying experience, you will lead technical aspects, support Home Improvement Officers with complex design and drawings, and manage a caseload involving complex works like extensions and internal reconfigurations. You will supervise staff, support service development, and handle complaints, working closely with the DFG Team Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the DFG Adaptation team. For more details, contact Stacey Brown at 02476 972824 or stacey.brown2@coventry.gov.uk.

Application process: After applying, you will be contacted for a scored interview. Previous applicants need not apply. The role is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974; appointment is conditional on a satisfactory DBS check.

Candidate Profile

We seek an enthusiastic leader with extensive surveying and construction knowledge, capable of working in a dynamic environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential. Flexibility, teamwork, and initiative are vital to success. We encourage applications from minority ethnic backgrounds to address current under-representation.

If you need support with your application, please visit our accessibility page. We offer a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for eligible groups, including Armed Forces members, care leavers, and disabled individuals.

Interview date: 30th July 2025.
