Job description

We have an opening for a passionate Principal Highways Engineer to join a growing Portsmouth team. We are looking for someone who has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in highways Design to assist the delivery development planning projects across the UK. You’ll be joining a team of expert engineering consultants with the latest industry design software who develop innovative solutions for active travel, public transport and highway infrastructure improvements to support development proposals.

The role

  • Preparing preliminary stage highway link and junction designs, active travel corridors, and traffic calming schemes.
  • Producing swept path analysis and vehicle tracking.
  • Input into technical reports including site access appraisals, Stage 1 Road Safety Audit briefs and Designer’s Responses and S278 Preliminary Design Check Submissions.

What you need to succeed

  • You must have a minimum of 5 years in the use of AutoCAD and good experience in the use of Civil 3D.
  • Good knowledge of highway design guidance including MfS, DMRB, and LTN 1/20
  • Proficient in the use of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions and Traffic Signs Manual
  • Experience of S278/S38 Agreements
  • Knowledge of SPONS Civil Engineering and Highway Works.
  • Knowledge of traffic modelling and its influence on highway design.
  • Professional qualifications, i.e. EngTech / IEng / CEng; and ICE / CIHT / CILT membership.
