Job Title: Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant

This is an excellent opportunity to join my client, a trusted, innovative Multidisciplinary Consultancy known for lending their expertise to a diverse range of projects across the planning, environmental, and engineering fields. They are actively searching for an experienced, determined Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant who is committed to enhancing business development by winning new and exciting projects within the flood risk and drainage sectors, based in the lively, diverse city of Manchester.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively seeking to win new projects for the company, contributing extensively to business development
  • Managing a team of professionals within the field
  • Conducting Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and designing Drainage Strategies, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), in support of planning applications
  • Completing Hydrological and Flood Risk Chapters of Environmental Impact Assessments, Nutrient Neutrality, and ESG factors
  • Undertaking site visits, writing comprehensive reports, and analysing data
  • Using the appropriate software packages (including MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, etc.) to inform and produce designs and other technical documents
  • Working with AutoCAD to develop conceptual drainage systems
  • Producing flood risk maps within QGIS (or similar)
  • Liaising with clients and other stakeholders, establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them
Required skills and experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent/higher qualification) in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Geography, or similar
  • Considerable experience of having won projects, contributing to business development
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a flood risk and drainage role, within a UK consultancy setting
  • Extensive experience of authoring Flood Risk Assessments and producing Drainage Strategies
  • Experience in managing people and projects
  • Proficient in the use of MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, TUFLOW, and similar software systems
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS software systems
  • Excellent understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of managing relations with clients and other stakeholders
  • Dedication to your own Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Hold a full, valid UK Driving Licence
Desirable skills and experience
  • Good understanding of relevant planning policy, procedures, and regulatory processes within the industry
  • Prior experience of producing technical reports for flood modelling studies
  • Good knowledge of hydraulic modelling for rivers, surface water, and/or sewer drainage
  • Actively working to attain Chartered Status
