Job summary

A leading recruitment firm is seeking a Principal Fire Safety Advisor for a 6-month contract in Barrow-in-Furness. This role focuses on fire safety for high-hazard site projects, including design review and risk assessment, while ensuring compliance with UK fire codes. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in fire safety engineering and hold a relevant STEM degree. Reporting to the project teams, the advisor will guide fire safety policies across submarine project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop/review fire strategies and risk assessments for complex buildings.
  • Review designs & drawings for compliance with BS9999, Approved Document B.
  • Oversee fire prevention/protection systems from design to commissioning.
  • Maintain fire safety policies and management plans.
  • Advise and liaise with engineering/project teams.

Skills

Fire safety engineering in high-hazard industries
Complex fire risk assessment experience
Knowledge of UK fire codes (BS9999, ADB)
Full lifecycle project involvement (concept → handover)

Education

STEM degree or equivalent experience
Professional fire safety certification (IFE, NEBOSH Fire) preferred

Overview

Principal Fire Safety Advisor - Safety, Health and Environment

Contract: 6 months

Location: Barrow (3 days per week onsite)

Rate: £47.41 PAYE (£54.30 including holiday pay) or £63.96 Umbrella

Clearance: BPSS + SC (UK Eyes Only)

Role: Lead fire safety for high-hazard site projects (new builds & refurbishments) from design through to handover. Act as SME for fire strategy, risk assessment, and fire protection systems for our defence engineering client. You will be supporting the facilities used for the design and build of submarine projects.

Core Duties
