Principal Fire Engineer Job in Manchester, Cheshire

Our client, an established and leading fire consultancy, is seeking a Principal Fire Engineer to join their Fire Engineering team. The role involves working through all stages of complex fire engineering projects. The position offers a salary of £65,000 - £90,000 plus bonus, 27 days holiday, bank holidays, hybrid working, healthcare, and continuous professional development.

The company provides strategic advice, innovative design, construction oversight, and risk management services to a diverse range of clients across the UK and worldwide. Established nearly 15 years ago, they are an award-winning consultancy working closely with councils, architects, and design teams to embed safety at the heart of architectural projects. They operate across sectors including commercial, residential, education, transport, healthcare, hospitality, and nuclear.

Responsibilities

1. Reporting to the Associate Fire Engineer / Associate Director
2. Managing technical aspects of larger projects or components of major projects
3. Supporting and mentoring Fire Engineers within your team
4. Delivering fire consultancy services, designer services, and fire strategies
5. Managing internal and external enquiries
6. Developing client relationships and identifying new business opportunities
7. Leading fire engineering teams to deliver multiple projects
8. Attending design team meetings throughout projects
9. Supporting business strategy and digital innovations
10. Preparing reports, engineering designs, calculations, and specifications
11. Managing projects from start to finish, including financials and quality management
12. Maintaining client communication throughout project lifecycle

Required Skills & Experience

• Engineering Council Accredited BEng Hons, MEng, or MSc; CEng / IEng or working towards
• MIFIREE or working towards
• Ideally 7+ years' experience in fire engineering
• Extensive experience delivering fire-engineered solutions for UK projects
• Familiarity with active and passive fire protection systems
• Strong understanding of UK legislation, regulations, and design guidance (or similar regulations in New Zealand or Australia)
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently under tight deadlines
• UK Driving Licence and own vehicle
