Principal Fire and Health & Safety Consultant

RPS is seeking a Principal Health, Safety & Fire Consultant to join the Health, Safety and Risk division. You will undertake a variety of health and safety risk assessments and high-level fire risk assessments, working with commercial, residential, industrial, and retail clients, with regional and UK-wide travel as needed. You will lead client-specific projects and manage client relationships.

About The Team:

The RPS Risk team has provided defence safety and risk consultancy services in the UK for over 30 years, supporting MOD and defence supply chain organisations with safety and environmental assessments, management support, and independent audits.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Preparing fire, health, and safety risk assessments compliant with legislation.
  • Providing safety advice and advocacy to clients, delivering the ‘RPS Way’.
  • Developing emergency and evacuation plans, including tenant-specific plans.
  • Leading client projects and acting as a competent person.
  • Developing fire strategy reports for residential and student accommodations.
  • Offering management advice, gap analysis, and safety management systems.
  • Mentoring team members and supporting departmental projects.
  • Reviewing risk assessments and ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Staying updated on legislation and advising clients accordingly.
  • Identifying solutions to safety-related issues and ensuring smooth implementation.
  • Maintaining professional development through CPD and external qualifications.
  • Reviewing international regulations and conducting European risk assessments as needed.
Who we’re looking for:
  • Strong knowledge of fire, health, and safety legislation across various sectors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with BAFE SP205 Validation process.
  • Ability to understand and embody company values.
  • Demonstrable CPD record and membership of IFSM or IFE.
  • Recognised fire risk assessment qualification and health and safety diploma.
  • Chartered status (CMIOSH or equivalent) or working towards it.
  • Registered on a Fire Consultants’ Register.
  • Understanding of British Standards related to fire safety in residential settings.
  • Practical knowledge of health and safety legislation and building regulations.
  • Awareness of CDM 2015 Regulations and experience with fire risk assessments and DSEAR is desirable.
