Job Description:

Principal Fire and Health & Safety Consultant

RPS is seeking a Principal Health, Safety & Fire Consultant to join the Health, Safety and Risk division. You will undertake various health and safety risk assessments and high-level fire risk assessments, working with commercial, residential, industrial, and retail clients across the UK, with regional travel as required. You will lead client projects and manage client relationships.

About The Team:

The RPS Risk team has over 30 years of experience providing defence safety and risk consultancy services in the UK, supporting MOD and defence supply chain organizations with safety assessments, management support, and audits.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Preparing fire, health, and safety risk assessments in line with legislation.
  • Providing safety advice to clients and delivering the ‘RPS Way’.
  • Developing emergency and evacuation plans.
  • Leading client-specific projects and roles as a competent person.
  • Creating fire strategy reports for residential and student accommodations.
  • Offering management advice, gap analysis, and safety management systems.
  • Mentoring team members and supporting departmental projects.
  • Reviewing technical risk assessments and ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Staying updated on legislation and advising clients accordingly.
  • Identifying solutions to safety and fire-related issues.
  • Responding to technical concerns and supporting clients ongoingly.
  • Maintaining professional CPD and pursuing further development.
  • Reviewing international and European safety regulations as needed.
Who we’re looking for:
  • Strong knowledge of fire, health, and safety legislation for various sectors.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with BAFE SP205 Validation process.
  • Ability to understand and embody company values.
  • Demonstrable CPD record.
  • Member of IFSM or IFE, with a recognized fire risk assessment qualification.
  • Diploma in health and safety, CMIOSH or equivalent, and registered on a fire consultants’ register.
  • Understanding of British Standards and regulations related to fire safety.
  • Experience with fire risk assessments, including Type 4 and DSEAR.
