Job summary

An environmental health organization in the East Midlands is looking for an experienced professional to investigate complaints regarding statutory nuisances, prepare legal notices, and provide expert input on planning applications. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Environmental Health, practical experience in enforcement, and strong communication skills. This role offers competitive compensation and a full-time or part-time contract.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience in statutory nuisance investigation and enforcement.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Location: East Midlands

Rate: £40-£45 (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, Part-time

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate complaints relating to noise, odour, smoke, light, and other statutory nuisances
  • Prepare and serve legal notices, gather evidence, and take enforcement action where necessary
  • Provide expert environmental health input into planning applications, including noise and air quality assessments
  • Liaise with developers, consultants, and internal planning teams to ensure environmental standards are met
  • Represent the authority at committee meetings, hearings, and in court when required
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to service improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree or diploma in Environmental Health or a related field
  • Practical experience in statutory nuisance investigation and enforcement
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • Experience reviewing and commenting on planning applications and technical reports
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload
