Job summary

SYSTRA UK & Ireland in Manchester is hiring a Principal Engineer in water engineering to lead SuDS design delivery across projects for United Utilities. The role requires strong technical leadership, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a deep understanding of design standards and regulatory requirements.

You will guide engineers and graduates, manage programmes, ensure QA and CDM compliance, and deliver robust drainage solutions that meet client needs within budget and schedule.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer preferred.
• Essential knowledge of SuDS designs.
• Experience on infrastructure, transportation or civil projects.
• Experience leading teams.

Responsibilities

• Define design approach and integrate inputs from multiple disciplines.
• Lead production of work packages, estimate inputs and manage programme.
• Drive technical excellence and QA checkpoints.
• Ensure designs meet client specifications and budget.
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance to engineers and graduates.
• Develop innovative, repeatable design methods.
