Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Analysis of complex steel structures utilising Eurocodes, British Standards and BAE standards, to support submarine build.
  2. Utilise knowledge of specific regulations & requirements beyond that used within BAE Systems, i.e., LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, geometric tolerance.
  3. Utilise computer-based analytical techniques including finite element analysis, CAD modelling and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
  4. Support manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes.
  5. Utilise knowledge of facility and site restrictions applicable to the shipping, handling, alignment and installation of hull units, large equipment, and structures.
  6. Support the production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands.
  7. Responsible for approvals, checking analysis and outputs. As a Principal Engineer, work with a dual function team (design and engineers) consisting of 14 people at various seniority levels, responsible for engineering assessments of the designs in support of build.
  8. Work in conjunction with design to produce equipment and/or support operation in production to produce safety-critical equipment.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Engineering Degree BEng/MEng or equivalent/OR HND with extensive years' experience.
  2. Expertise in structural steel analysis.
  3. Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, knowledge of lifting handling and LOLER.
  4. Working knowledge of ABAQUS (Software), Foran, MathCAD, and Excel.
  5. Previous knowledge in a production environment - experience in a marine production environment advantageous.

Desirable:

  1. Previous experience in shipbuilding, offshore, civil industries.
  2. Chartered Engineer.
