Job description

We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Principal Process Engineer based at Preston, with hybrid working available and an expectation to attend sites regularly.

You will report directly to the R&D and your role will be to provide superior quality engineering design services to help the company minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You must coordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings, considering health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards related to the contract.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and can be effectively constructed and commissioned. All costs associated with the design and construction, including design time, materials, erection, and impacts on other disciplines, should be considered.
  • Utilizing standard practices wherever possible.
  • Maintaining competitiveness.
  • Providing estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
  • Following procedures and processes to support departmental development.
  • Helping develop, monitor, and update procedures and processes.
  • Coordinating designs with all relevant disciplines internally and externally to ensure integrated contract execution.
  • Maintaining files and records throughout project durations.
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction, recognizing it as key to achieving other objectives.
  • Maintaining a personal development plan.
  • Assisting in supervising and developing staff.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Minimizing waste from departmental activities.
  • Considering environmental issues in design.
  • Ensuring designs fully comply with health and safety requirements.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
  • Experience managing staff in designing water and sewage treatment plants.
  • Membership of a professional institution / chartered status.
  • Relevant engineering degree.
  • Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
  • Good general knowledge of water treatment aspects, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
  • Flexible mindset capable of handling large amounts of data.
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly and convincingly.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Valid driving license.
