Principal Engineer - Mechanical (Shock and Dynamics)

Our client, a leading entity within the Defence & Security sector and specialising in submarine solutions, is currently seeking a Principal Engineer - Mechanical Engineering (Shock and Dynamics) to join their team in Barrow. This contract role offers hybrid working arrangements and spans a duration of 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform simulation and analysis of structures and equipment subjected to dynamic loading.
  • Provide structural design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases.
  • Follow internal procedures and develop evidence of compliance through written calculations and reports.
  • Undertake peer review checking activities to approve methods and calculations.
  • Lead and support the identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages.
  • Lead technical development and research activities, methods and acceptance criteria, liaising with industrial partners and external customers as necessary.
  • Provide realistic programme status, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in classical stress analysis and undertaking structural calculations.
  • Understanding of the principles of structural mechanics and dynamics.
  • Understanding of material strength properties (elastic and plastic properties).
  • Experienced in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
  • Experienced in presenting technical arguments clearly and simply.
  • Previous experience checking and approving technical work.

Additional Information:

  • Site: Barrow with hybrid working arrangements (1-2 days a fortnight on site).
  • Security Level: SC
