Duties and Responsibilities
- The provision of expert professional safety and environmental support to surface ship, submarine, equipment, and commercial projects.
- The provision of governance and assurance to safety and environmental projects as directed by the Head of Department (HoD).
- The provision of expert safety and environmental case input to non-conformances and design changes for specified systems.
- The robust management of the Safety and Environmental Case (SEC) 'body of evidence' to support safety and environmental operation claims within a Safety and Environmental Case Report (SECR).
- Supporting other members of the SEG in developing non-nuclear safety and environmental assessments or cases.
- Providing subject matter advice and support in your specialization to other SEG members.
- Planning and controlling work to meet time, cost, and quality objectives.
Skills and Qualifications
- Substantial experience in an environmental protection role and experience developing an Environmental Management System (e.g., ISO14001 or POEMS compliant).
- Extensive knowledge of environmental issues and legislation.
- Working knowledge of MOD Health Safety and Environmental Protection (HS&EP) Policy and regulations, including ASEMS, POEMS, and JSP standards.
- Knowledge of Defence Standards and Joint Service Publications such as JSP 418 and JSP 00-056.
- Experience with Defence Safety Authority (DSA) Policy and Defence Domain Regulations (e.g., DMR).
- Ability to author technical reports and lead technical meetings.
- Strong presentational, written, analytical, and IT skills.
- Good people management and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Decision-making capability within your sphere of responsibility.
- Degree qualification is ideal; HND/HNC in engineering with extensive relevant experience will be considered.
