Following a number of recent wins, and excellent pipeline of work, we are currently seeking to expand our Highways team within our Transportation Practice and are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead teams and projects for a range of existing clients.

The successful candidates will join an exciting and expanding team in Wales & West working on a number of high-profile multi-disciplinary projects and frameworks. This includes the A417 Missing link, A303 Stonehenge and A303 Sparkford to Ilchester Design and technical assurance, Lower Thames crossing, NH SPaTS framework. You would also be working alongside local authorities throughout the region on the SWMWRCES, SEWTAPS, WECA, Gloucestershire County Council, Supply the South West and Place & Movement Frameworks.

The team also support wider projects through the UK and are currently working on a range of exciting national projects.

The role is based in our Bristol office, with potential travel to other AtkinsRéalis locations to deliver value for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead projects and teams, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to drive solutions and best practices.
• Represent AtkinsRéalis to clients, building a reputation for reliable delivery.
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Identify new opportunities and workstreams to grow the local team.
• Oversee staff development and project team responsibilities.

Role Requirements:

The role requires industry experience, technical skills, communication, and stakeholder management. Candidates should have:

• Experience leading projects with key clients such as Local Authorities, National Highways, Network Rail, Welsh Government, Developers, or Major Contractors.
• Knowledge of relevant design standards (e.g., DMRB, MCHW, DfT Manual for Streets, LTNs, Active Travel Guidance, Welsh Government, and National Highways standards).
• Ability to deliver projects within scope and budget, meeting deadlines.
• Experience preparing reports and specifications for projects and tenders.
• Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building abilities across disciplines.
• Experience leading teams across various projects.
• Support for professional development of team members.

Additional Criteria:

• BEng, MEng, or MSc in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional qualification (IEng/CEng) with an appropriate institution (e.g., ICE, CIHT).
• Effective communication skills with clients, design teams, and contractors.
