Principal Engineer – Epitaxy

Suffolk, onsite working required

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Principal Engineer with a deep understanding of epitaxial growth processes, specifically for Indium Phosphide (InP) materials in photonics applications. This is an exciting opportunity to drive advancements in epitaxial technologies, contributing to the design and manufacturing of high-performance photonic components. Your work will be instrumental in shaping the future of cutting-edge telecommunications, data centers, and other photonics-enabled solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development and optimization of epitaxial growth processes, focusing on Indium Phosphide (InP) materials for photonics applications.
  2. Collaborate with teams to pioneer techniques for wafer growth, ensuring high material quality and uniformity.
  3. Work closely with photonics device design teams to tailor epitaxial layers for optimal device performance.
  4. Establish and manage robust quality control protocols while overseeing material characterization for wafers.
  5. Mentor junior engineers and researchers, fostering expertise in epitaxial growth methods and photonics.
  6. Manage and direct R&D projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timelines.
  7. Stay informed about emerging technologies, industry standards, and advancements in epitaxial growth.

Required:
  1. Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 12+ years of experience in epitaxial growth of compound semiconductors, particularly InP.
  3. Proven expertise in Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD).
  4. Strong understanding of photonics and optoelectronic device applications.
  5. Strong analytical skills with experience in statistical process control and data interpretation.
  6. Experience with optoelectronic device fabrication.
  7. Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and semiconductor fabrication.
  8. Hands-on experience with characterization tools such as XRD, PL, SEM, SIMS, and AFM.
  9. Knowledge of industry standards and requirements for photonic devices.
