Job description

We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Principal EICA Engineer based at Exeter, with hybrid working available and an expectation to attend sites regularly.

You will report directly to the RDL, providing superior quality engineering design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. Your role will involve coordinating the design process and producing design documents and drawings, considering health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards relevant to the contract.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Producing cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and are easy to construct and commission. This includes considering all costs associated with design and construction, such as design time, materials, erection, and impacts on other disciplines.
  • Utilizing standard practices wherever possible.
  • Maintaining competitiveness.
  • Providing estimates and feedback for the proposals department.
  • Following procedures and processes to support departmental development.
  • Assisting in developing, reviewing, and monitoring procedures and processes.
  • Ensuring design coordination with all disciplines, internal and external, to benefit the overall contract.
  • Maintaining files and records throughout contract durations.
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction, recognizing it as key to achieving objectives.
  • Maintaining a personal development plan.
  • Supervising and developing staff.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Minimizing waste from departmental activities.
  • Considering environmental issues in designs.
  • Adhering to all health and safety requirements in design.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
  • Experience managing staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
  • Full membership of a professional institution, Chartered Engineer.

Preferable qualifications:

  • Relevant discipline engineering degree.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Relevant discipline engineering HND with extensive suitable experience.

Additional skills:

  • Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
  • Good knowledge of water treatment aspects, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
  • Flexible mindset capable of assimilating large data sets.
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly and convincingly.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Driving license.

Desirable:

  • Relevant engineering master's degree.
