Principal Engineer - Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation)

Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Coventry (minimum 2/3 days on-site per week). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements—please speak to your recruiter about options.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
  • Support assurance activities in coordination with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
  • Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress via agile tools.
  • Ensure the engineering delivery plan is met and on schedule.
  • Provide guidance on engineering methods and processes.
  • Develop technical solutions with the Engineering Delivery Team, mentoring team members.
  • Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience designing large-scale C&I systems meeting various standards.
  • Managing non-functional requirements like EMC and shock compliance.
  • Authoring or reviewing design documents such as I/O schedules, functional specifications, and interface control documents.
  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Understanding control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
  • Experience with IEC 61508 - Functional Safety and safety evidence documentation.
  • Experience with manoeuvring systems across industries.
