Position Overview: We are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead and contribute to advanced concepts development with a primary objective of achieving product end points. More specifically, you’ll be tasked with driving technical advancement of capabilities and products focused on the intersection of squad-level performance and multi-domain interoperability. This role requires an established engineer with the ability to drive new technology development, primarily within the defense market. You'll act as a Technical Lead, leveraging your defense market background to innovate, serve as a technical authority and expand our project portfolio.

Open to any of the following locations: Fort Collins, CO | Austin, TX | Rhode Island

Due to the nature of Mantel’s business, US Citizenship is required for this position. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance. Candidates with current security clearances are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and direct complex engineering and R&D initiatives as a Principal Engineer, guiding projects from ideation through advanced development.
  2. Apply deep technical expertise to solve challenging engineering problems and develop innovative, impactful solutions.
  3. Contribute significantly to program growth, identifying new technical opportunities and providing essential technical support for securing contracts.
  4. Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to align engineering solutions with their technical needs.
  5. Author comprehensive technical documentation, including detailed reports and proposals.

What we are looking for in you:

  1. Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Aerospace, Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Systems) with 12+ years of experience in a mission-focused, application-driven environment.
  2. Candidates without an advanced degree should have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in a mission-focused, application-driven environment with a BS in a relevant engineering discipline.
  3. Systems-level thinker with strong engineering fundamentals and critical thinking skills honed for defense applications.
  4. Technical leadership and engineering ability to drive innovative technology/product development and solve complex problems in an R&D setting.
  5. Experience in end user- and stakeholder-driven solution development with a focus on delivering solutions.
  6. Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  7. Interest in leading technical teams, providing guidance and mentorship to team members.
  8. Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.
  9. Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% domestically.
