A little more about your role…

You will be joining our expanding Building Structures team as a Principal Engineer, with accountability for project management, technical leadership, and delivery of schemes from inception through to handover to the client.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  1. Develop innovative and sustainable designs for a range of challenging projects, including transportation hubs, tall towers, airports, and universities.
  2. Manage multi-disciplinary design projects from concept to detailed design, coordinating with architects, engineers, and consultants.
  3. Contribute to our ongoing success and help build our growing order book.

The role can be performed on a full or part-time basis.

Your team

You will join a diverse and talented team that:

  1. Leads strategic roles on large multi-disciplinary projects and provides bespoke structural solutions.
  2. Builds strong relationships within WSP, with external consultants, stakeholders, and clients.
  3. Provides sustainable development solutions from site selection to detailed design and construction.
  4. Offers specialist advice on sustainable design, net zero carbon, MMC & DfMA.

Reporting to a senior team member, you will work on high-profile projects across various sectors including rail, high-rise, airports, commercial, retail, education, and healthcare. Current projects include a low-carbon pier for Gatwick Airport, a new hospital in Brighton, and HS2 station works.

Our client base spans private and public sectors, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join WSP’s expanding Structures South team located in Southampton or Basingstoke, with offices within walking distance of train stations and modern facilities.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • Chartered status (MIStructE / AIStructE / MICE) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, analytical techniques, design software, and Eurocodes.
  • Experience leading small teams to produce engineering deliverables.
  • Interest in low carbon design and embodied carbon assessment.
  • Experience in quality assurance of project outputs.
  • Line management and mentoring experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good relationships within the local construction industry.
