Job summary

The NRL Group is recruiting a Senior / Principal Engineer (Bridges & Structures) in Leeds to provide technical leadership for bridge and structural maintenance and refurbishment packages. You will oversee design, assessment, and post-tensioned concrete projects, ensuring quality, programme, and governance within a multi-disciplinary team.

Candidates should hold a Civil or Structural Engineering degree and be Chartered (CEng MIStructE/MICE).

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE)
• Significant experience in bridge/structures asset management, design and assessment
• Post-tensioned concrete bridges and PTSI site supervision experience
• Proficient in design codes, analysis methods, and reporting

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of small to medium packages (inspection, assessment, design, renewal) to programme and budget
• Provide technical direction, checking, and approval of designs, calculations, and reports
• Ensure compliance with standards, specifications and governance
• Contribute to planning, risk management and commercial awareness
• Attend site for PTSI during night or day shifts and supervise on-site activities
• Mentor junior engineers and interface with clients and internal teams

Senior / Principal Engineer (Bridges & Structures)

Experienced Senior / Principal Engineer providing technical leadership to deliver defined packages of bridge and structural engineering maintenance and refurbishment work including management of post-tensioned concrete bridges. Accountable for quality, programme, and technical oversight within a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of small to medium work packages (inspection, assessment, design, or renewal schemes) to programme and budget
• Provide technical direction, checking, and approval of designs, calculations, and reports
• Ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and governance processes
• Contribute to planning, risk management, and commercial awareness on projects
• Attend site on an ad-hoc basis to suit National Highways’ programme of PTSI during night or day time shifts
• Provide on-site supervision for PTSI activities ensuring compliance with CS 465 and witness and log events as necessary to maintain accurate records
• Production of PTSI Interpretative Reports
• Mentor and guide junior engineers; support capability within the team
• Act as a key interface with clients and internal disciplines

Required Experience & Skills

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE)
• Strong background in bridge/structures asset management, design and assessment
• Significant experience of post-tensioned concrete bridges and PTSI site supervision
• Proficient in relevant design codes, analysis methods and reporting, including National Highways procedures
• Demonstrable experience leading technical delivery of projects
• Effective communicator with ability to work across disciplines
• Driving license required
