Job summary

Waterman Group is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead building services design in Manchester. You will guide electrical schemes from concept to delivery across commercial, residential, education and leisure sectors.

The role focuses on technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams to deliver sustainable, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience within a Building Services / MEP consultancy.
  • Strong experience designing electrical systems for buildings.
  • Experience across sectors such as commercial, residential, education, leisure, healthcare or similar.
  • Strong technical knowledge across LV electrical distribution, lighting, small power and associated building services systems.
  • Experience leading projects and taking responsibility for technical delivery.
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience reviewing and mentoring other engineers.
  • Good understanding of project budgets, programmes and resource management.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership with an appropriate professional institution would be advantageous.
  • A commercial mindset and an interest in contributing to the growth of a team and business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical engineering design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to completion.
  • Develop electrical designs and specifications for a range of building types and sectors.
  • Design systems including LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, small power, containment, fire alarm, earthing and lightning protection.
  • Produce and review calculations, specifications, drawings and technical reports.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers within the team.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural, architectural and other disciplines.
  • Attend client, design team and project meetings, providing clear and confident technical advice.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Manage technical delivery, programme and resources across projects.
  • Review and check the work of other engineers to ensure a high standard of technical quality.
  • Support the preparation of fee proposals, tenders and bids.
  • Identify opportunities to develop existing client relationships and support the growth of the Manchester Building Services team.
  • Mentor and support junior and less experienced engineers, helping them develop their technical and professional skills.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant British Standards, CIBSE guidance, Building Regulations and other applicable legislation.

Job description

Waterman Group is looking for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Building Services team in Manchester.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to take a leading role in the design and delivery of building services projects across a diverse range of sectors, including commercial, residential, education and leisure.

You will be responsible for leading the electrical design of projects, working closely with clients, architects and other engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality, innovative and sustainable solutions.

As a Principal Engineer, you will also play an important role in supporting the development of the team, mentoring engineers and contributing to the continued growth of our Manchester office.

Key Responsibilities

About You
