Job summary

Haskoning seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer for its Birmingham Industry & Buildings team, joining a skilled Building Services group. You will manage and deliver varied projects for industrial and commercial clients, from brief to inspection, within budget and on time.

You will lead technically, mentor engineers, and drive digitalisation and parametric design. The role spans UK and international work with a dynamic, growth-focused team.

Qualifications

• BEng (Hons) or MEng in Building Services / Electrical Engineering.
• 5–10 years relevant working experience in electrical design.
• Chartered or Incorporated Status.
• Strong communication and project management skills.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with international colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver electrical building services packages in multiple concurrent projects, UK or internationally.
• Provide technical leadership on projects.
• Mentor and coach design engineers.
• Promote digital, automation and parametric design methods on projects.
• Prepare designs from concept to detailed designs (LV power, lighting, containment, fire detection, security, lightning protection).
• Produce design calculations and use 3D modelling software; check calculations.
• Prepare sketches/drawings and review them prior to issue.
• Prepare specifications and assist with contract documents.
• Carry out inspections and surveys, prepare reports.

Job description

We are looking to recruit a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Birmingham Industry & Buildings team, to become an integral member of our skilled Building Services team and assist with our growing workload. You will manage and deliver a range of projects from industrial and commercial Clients. Project responsibility will be varied from inception of defining a Client's design brief to inspections, specifications, design, and management of projects. You will be flexible, dynamic with the ability to assist in the development of our growing team. This role requires someone with the ability to deliver quality, robust deliverables on time and within budget.

Our projects cover a wide range of sectors including industrial, logistics, people buildings, food & beverage and automotive, including many more.

Main Work Area's Will Be

• Manage and deliver the Electrical building services work packages in multiple concurrent projects, either in the UK or internationally.
• Provide technical leadership on projects
• Providing technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to design engineers
• Promote the implementation of digital, automation and parametric methods of design on projects

Technical Development And Management Of Design Projects

• Preparation of designs, from initial concepts through to detailed designs, including:
• LV Power system design, Lighting, Containment, Fire detection, security and Lightning protection systems.
• Ideally experience in HV power system design
• Production of design calculations including using 3D modelling software, checking and reviewing of calculations produced by others.
• Producing sketch drawings / details for drawing / modelling by others and complete checking and reviewing of these prior to issue.
• Preparation of specifications, and assistance with contract documents.
• Carry out inspections and surveys, preparation of reports and reporting.

Commercial And Management Duties

• Assisting in proposal writing, marketing and business development as required
• Supporting the commercial and technical management of projects, ensuring that projects show a profitable result.

Required Skills And Experience

• A BEng (Hons) or MEng in Building Services / Electrical Engineering;
• At least 5 - 10 years relevant working experience in Electrical design;
• Achieved Chartered or Incorporated Status
• Good knowledge of standard practices in the design and construction of relevant sector
• Good understanding of the sector specific daily (operational) business of our clients;
• An entrepreneurial, result oriented, proactive individual with a positive flexible and problem solving attitude;
• Ability to perform best in a multidisciplinary team often with international colleagues;
• You have excellent communication skills towards colleagues and clients;
• Good project management skills
• Knowledge and practical experience of specialist mechanical building services design and modelling software including
• Autodesk Revit
• MagiCAD/StabiCAD
• NBS Create
