Role description:

As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal Environmental Consultant with a broad range of EIA experience. You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business, and mentor others in the team.

Your expertise in environmental management, technical or sustainability fields could involve protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world's busiest and most beautiful locations.

Role accountabilities:
  • Leading coordination and delivery of environmental work by multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development, and ensuring optimal environmental outcomes.
  • Executing and reviewing your own work to high standards.
  • Collaborating with the Impact Assessment Team across the UK.
  • Managing projects or project components, including resource allocation, subcontractors, and quality assurance.
  • Supporting tender proposals and bids as part of a winning team.
  • Providing environmental advice to clients, project managers, and colleagues.
  • Engaging with stakeholders and consultees.
  • Developing clear and impactful reports, capable of explaining outcomes to non-technical audiences.
  • Overseeing project performance in technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety aspects.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Strong knowledge of EIA practices, environmental principles, and technical specialisms.
  • Experience across various project types, including energy, residential/mixed-use, regeneration, and major infrastructure sectors like rail and highways.
  • Proven ability to manage EIA screening, scoping, and environmental statement activities, including review of specialist chapters.
  • Practical understanding of UK planning and consenting processes.
  • Excellent report writing, verbal, and presentation skills; experience in quality review.
  • Leadership and coordination experience in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and negotiations with authorities and regulators.
  • Relevant degree; chartered status or working towards it preferred.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Desired: Experience with SEA or IIA projects, sustainability, waste, or carbon assessments.
