Principal Ecologists - Norwich

Salary Range: Competitive salary of circa GBP43k plus benefits

Are you an experienced ecologist with a strong business acumen looking for a new challenge? We are a dynamic and growing business seeking a self-motivated and positive-minded Principal Ecologist to join our friendly team in Norwich. We offer both permanent and fixed-term positions.

The successful candidate will manage a team of ecologists, finding ecologically smart, commercially efficient, and cost-effective solutions for projects of various scales. Responsibilities include managing contracts, supporting staff, drafting high-quality reports, reviewing technical work, and supporting clients and design teams in problem-solving. You will also contribute to business development by costing and tendering for work, increasing bid invitations, and exploring new business opportunities.

Candidate Requirements
  • Hold an appropriate degree qualification
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience
  • Excellent knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation
  • Strong fieldwork and report writing skills, including protected species surveys and ecological management plans
  • At least 5 years experience in reviewing others' work
  • Competence in surveying and mitigation for two or more key protected species (e.g., bats, badgers, reptiles)
  • Hold EPS and/or conservation licenses for relevant species and preferably be registered on the class license scheme
  • Proven project and staff management experience
  • Ability to manage workload proactively, delegate, and support junior staff
  • Proficiency in customer service, training, and workshop delivery
  • Full membership of CIEEM, preferably CEcoL
  • Proactive self-starter with initiative
  • Full clean UK driving license

We value project management skills and a passion for delivering client satisfaction. Experience in high-level reptile mitigation is particularly valued, and applications from ecologists with botany specialization or FISC certification are encouraged.
