Job summary

Sapien Engineering is seeking a Principal Electrical Controls and Instrumentation Engineer to join our defence consultancy on a full-time basis. The role requires senior EC&I expertise, with a track record in heavy industrial or rotating equipment and a strong focus on quality, safety and client satisfaction.

You will lead design activities, produce critical documentation, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring project milestones are met within defence programme constraints.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related field.
• Experience in Aerospace/Defence industry, preferably with defence programmes.
• Chartered Engineer is preferred.
• Experience in heavy engineering, power transmission, gears and gear boxes.
• Strong knowledge of AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality standards.
• Proficient in root cause and failure mode analysis techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Detail-oriented with focus on team, quality and continuous improvement.
• Ability to chair design review meetings and manage documentation rigor.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical specifications, scopes of work, calculations, drawings and schedules.
• Lead EC&I design in heavy industrial or rotating equipment environments.
• Create P&ID, wiring diagrams and related documentation.
• Develop test rigs and interface between product and rig hardware.
• Guide design reviews and present progress to clients and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design issues.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers to foster capability.
