Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company LLC in Preston, UK, is seeking a Principal EC&I Engineer to lead the EC&I discipline on major projects. The role requires directing a multi-disciplinary team, delivering key design outputs, and ensuring adherence to applicable standards and client requirements.

Qualifications

  • At least 8+ years of industry experience, with a minimum of 3 years at Senior Engineer level.
  • Ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sectors.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the UK.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Chartered Member of the IET.
  • Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied.
  • Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of EC&I design.
  • Strong knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products / plant and equipment.
  • Experience of design in accordance with the IET 18th edition (BS7671).

Responsibilities

  • Act as the project’s single point of authority and accountability for the EC&I engineering discipline
  • Dependent on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the clients responsible engineering team
  • Responsible for the development key design deliverables such as Block Cable Diagrams, Schematics, Cable Schedules and General Arrangements
  • Checking and Approval of cable calculations by hand or in Amtech and lighting calculations in Dialux/Relux
  • Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards
  • Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel
  • Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented
  • Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages
  • Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget
  • Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts
  • Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM
  • Present EC&I engineering designs to clients and key stakeholders who may be discipline experts or non-discipline related
  • Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs
  • Production and checking of safety related documents such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation / Justifications Report
  • Develop estimates, define deliverables, clarify scope/exclusions and develop programme logic at bid / tender stages
  • Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skill sets and enhance the company’s capabilities
  • Develop and manage/maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organisations

Your Day-to-Day:

Who You Are:

As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
