Job summary

White Label Recruitment is partnering with a growing production solution provider in Wakefield to recruit a Principal Design Engineer.

This senior technical leadership role hands you ownership of complex projects, acting as Technical Lead across Special Purpose Machinery and Industrial Automation while coordinating other engineers through the full lifecycle.

Salary £55,000–£60,000 dependent on experience, with benefits including pension, dental and health support, and flexible hybrid working.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience in SP machinery or industrial automation.
• Proven track record of guiding concepts to detailed design and build.
• Strong mechanical engineering knowledge: materials, tolerancing, manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

• Act as Technical Lead from concept through build and FAT support.
• Collaborate with sales to translate customer needs into viable engineering concepts.
• Produce and review concept layouts and detailed designs using Autodesk Inventor.
• Lead engineers and coordinate input from controls and other disciplines.
• Ensure mechanical design approval and overall technical integrity of solutions.
• Lead design reviews, identify risks early and ensure safe, manufacturable designs.
• Apply machinery safety standards and support risk assessments.
• Estimate engineering hours and contribute to project costing.
• Support Build/Controls teams with queries, changes and troubleshooting.
• Coach and develop other Design Engineers.
