Zenith People is proud to be working with a leading engineering organisation at the forefront of innovation in the energy and subsea sectors. We are recruiting for a Principal Design Engineer to join a dedicated Research & Development team focused on the development and maintenance of medium and high voltage (MV/HV) cable products.

This is a senior technical position within a specialised R&D function. You will act as a technical authority, leading the design and development of MV/HV cable systems used in offshore wind and hybrid power umbilical applications. The role involves setting and maintaining design rules, technical standards, and documentation, while supporting cross-functional teams and contributing to the company's product innovation and lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver R&D projects related to MV/HV submarine cables.
  • Develop and maintain cable design rules and technical documentation standards.
  • Perform detailed cable design calculations and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support across the product lifecycle, including risk assessments, specification reviews, and resolution of complex technical queries.
  • Drive the integration of new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance product quality and efficiency.
Essential Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or Physics), with Chartered Engineer status or eligibility.
  • Extensive experience in high voltage submarine cable design, particularly within offshore wind or oil & gas sectors.
  • Deep understanding of cable construction, ratings, manufacturing, installation, and operation.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC and CIGRE.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
