Remote Working - UK Home-based with very occasional travel into the office

£52,737 - £66,197 (National Framework) or £58,409 - £71,869 (London Framework – if you are London office based or homebased and live within the boundary of the M25)

Plus an additional allowance of up to £7,000 (paid separately) for exceptional candidates.

Additionally, a homeworking allowance of £581 per annum is provided for those working from home.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Data Scientist with a strong background in Advanced AI (Artificial Intelligence). The role involves leading, mentoring, and upskilling a team of Data Scientists. You will collaborate cross-functionally to deliver AI and Data Science programs across the organization, focusing on Data Quality, Data Governance, and Best Practice. Proven experience in Python coding and cloud computing, along with excellent communication skills, is essential. Leadership experience in delivering data science projects is required.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead the delivery of AI and Data Science programs across the organization.
2. Lead and develop the Data Science team.
3. Champion Data Science and Advanced Statistics, advising colleagues on complex analytic work.
4. Contribute to the development of AI and Data Science initiatives to achieve high-impact outcomes.
5. Lead a team to deliver Data Science solutions.
6. Promote excellence and innovation in data science methods, learning from best practices nationally and internationally.
7. Assess and advise on the effectiveness of advanced statistical and data science models.
8. Manage competing demands within the Data & Insight unit, balancing delivery and stakeholder expectations.
9. Build and maintain internal and external relationships to support the AI and Data Science programs.
10. Lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve outcomes.
11. Ensure quality control and assurance of outputs.
12. Stay updated on developments in data, policy, and care delivery structures.
13. Promote a culture of respect, fairness, diversity, and inclusion.

Skills and Experience:

1. Post-graduate qualification or equivalent professional experience.
2. Deep understanding of data science techniques such as machine learning and natural language processing.
3. Experience in delivering complex analytics and data science solutions.
4. Proficiency with tools like Python, R, and SQL.
5. Experience with cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
6. Experience with cloud-based tools like Databricks, Azure Machine Learning, Azure AI Foundry.
7. Experience deploying data science models at scale and collaborating with architecture teams.
8. Proven leadership and team development skills.
9. Strong influencing and stakeholder management abilities.
10. Excellent communication skills tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
