Job summary

NUVIA Ltd is seeking a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to lead design packages for civil/subway systems in a regulated, safety‑critical context. The role requires strong technical leadership, design reviews for sub-contracts, and cross‑functional collaboration to fit designs within the facility layout.

You will contribute to governance, change control, and assurance activities across subway projects, with hybrid/remote options and opportunities across the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer with ICE membership or working towards chartered status, or significant experience.
• Experience in regulated environments and CDM responsibilities.
• Experience with BIM environments and design governance.
• Knowledge of project planning, budgeting, and interface management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage technical design packages to meet requirements.
• Provide design guidance and review sub-contractor designs for compliance.
• Collaborate across engineering functions to integrate designs into overall facility layout.
• Maintain engineering configuration and change control throughout the design lifecycle.

Prior clearance will not be transferrable.We are looking for a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to support delivery of civil/structural subway systems as part of the subways Team in Devonport.Principal Accountabilities:Lead and manage one or more technical design packages ensuring requirements are met through the design processProvide technical design guidance and review of sub-contract design to ensure compliance with specifications, technical regulations and standardsCollaboration across engineering functions and stakeholders to integrate designs within the overall facility layout and manage interfacesMaintaining the engineering configuration of the design intent (change control)Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:Design of high complex services subways/routes preferably in a Nuclear/ Regulated environmentRegulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to civil/structural design and construction (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM)Substantiation of SFR's when identified within systems to support the nuclear safety caseAble to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle.Provide expert advice to the sub-contracted design houses to enable them to develop the design.Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.Experience of working in BIM environments.Awareness of project planning, project management and budgeting.Sound understanding of company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements and ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures.Collaborate with other design houses regarding the proposed works and the required changes to the subways to facilitate their designs.Support development and lead implementation of assurance and governance activities for subway remedial works and new design developmentQualifications Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.Chartered Engineer with membership of an accredited body (i.e. ICE) or working towards chartered status.
