Job Description:

Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements—please consult your recruiter about options.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
  • Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
  • Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress via agile tools.
  • Ensure timely delivery of the engineering plan.
  • Guide the engineering team on methods and processes.
  • Develop technical solutions with the Engineering Delivery Team, fostering team development.
  • Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.

Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems, meeting functional and industry standards.
  • Managing non-functional requirements like EMC and shock, ensuring compliance.
  • Proficiency in authoring and reviewing design documents (I/O schedules, specifications, interface documents).
  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Math, or Science.
  • Understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (RS-485, PROFIBUS).
  • Experience with IEC 61508 or similar functional safety standards.
  • Background in manoeuvring systems across industries.
