Job Description

Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (minimum 2 days on site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about options.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

What you’ll be doing:
  1. Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
  2. Work with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
  3. Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
  4. Collaborate with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress through agile tools.
  5. Ensure delivery of the engineering plan on schedule.
  6. Provide guidance on engineering methods and processes.
  7. Work with the Engineering Delivery Team to develop technical solutions and mentor team members.
  8. Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.
Your skills and experiences:
  • Essential: Experience in developing C&I designs for large-scale systems, meeting various standards.
  • Experience managing non-functional requirements like EMC, shock, etc., ensuring industrial compliance.
  • Experience authoring/reviewing design documents such as I/O schedules, design specifications, interface control documents.
  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of control system architecture, communication protocols (RS-485, PROFIBUS), IEC 61508 – Functional Safety, and Manoeuvring Systems.

Contribute to the design of the Royal Navy’s next attack submarine, working with legacy and new control technologies, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Relocation support available for eligible roles.
