Job Description:

RINA’s Maritime Safety Consulting division seeks an experienced Safety Engineering Consultant to join a growing team, working with Defence clients across naval platforms including surface ships, carriers, submarines, and unmanned vessels. This role offers an opportunity to develop RINA’s Safety and ISA capabilities, providing world-class safety advisory services to the Royal Navy.

This position can be based in Southampton, Chippenham, or Leatherhead, with RINA supporting hybrid working arrangements. Moderate UK travel is required. We are open to full-time or part-time (3-4 days/week) employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Maritime Safety Engineering projects, ensuring timely, budget-conscious, and quality deliverables;
  • Manage projects individually or with a small team;
  • Support bids, proposals, analysis, and report writing;
  • Promote RINA’s Safety capabilities through client liaison, relationship building, and presentations;
  • Assist safety management team in enhancing safety capabilities to meet market demands;

Qualifications & experience:

  • Minimum ten years’ experience in safety engineering management in high-hazard environments;
  • Knowledge of UK MOD maritime/naval platforms;
  • Experience with Hazard & Safety Risk Analysis, Safety Assurance, and safety case development;
  • Proficiency with Safety Engineering tools such as Reliability Workbench, ASCE, BowTie, ETA, or FTA;
  • Familiarity with Defence Standard 00-56, DSA02-DMR, and UK MOD frameworks like Aurora;
  • Working knowledge of ASEMS, POSMS, and POEMS processes;
  • Engineering background required;
  • UK Security Clearance preferred or willingness to undergo vetting.
