Principal Consultant - Planning & EIA
North Wales (Hybrid/Flexible)
Full-time | £45,000 - £50,000 DOE + benefits
A respected environmental and planning consultancy is looking for a Principal Consultant to lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and planning projects across North Wales and beyond. This is a key leadership role, ideal for an experienced consultant seeking to combine technical delivery, team leadership, and business development within a flexible and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Lead complex planning and EIA projects across sectors including renewables, infrastructure, and property development.
- Produce and review high-quality technical reports, environmental statements, and management plans.
- Ensure all work is delivered to time, budget, and quality standards in line with ISO 9001 and company procedures.
- Oversee subcontractors and provide technical oversight across multidisciplinary teams.
Team Leadership
- Line manage and mentor a team of up to five consultants.
- Encourage knowledge-sharing, innovation, and professional development within the team.
- Support workload planning and staff resourcing.
Client & Commercial Focus
- Act as lead contact for key clients and develop new client relationships.
- Support the preparation of bids, tenders, and fee proposals.
- Identify and help secure new business in energy, infrastructure, and property sectors.
Strategic Contribution
- Provide expert advice in one or more environmental or planning specialisms.
- Feed into the strategic development of the planning & EIA team.
- Represent the business at industry events, conferences, and client meetings.
About You
- Proven experience delivering major EIA or planning consultancy projects in the UK.
- In-depth understanding of relevant environmental and planning legislation.
- Skilled at managing teams and coordinating complex workloads.
- Strong client engagement and commercial awareness.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant field (e.g. Environmental Science, Town Planning, Geography).
