The Opportunity

Our Planning and Controls team is a centre of excellence within Arup’s Project and Programme Management (PPM) practice. The team supports a wide range of engineering projects across the business, and we are seeking an experienced construction planner to join our team in London. This role is focused on construction planning and scheduling during the early design and construction stages of engineering projects.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

As a Principal Construction Planner, you will support the delivery of complex infrastructure and engineering projects through high-quality construction planning and scheduling. You will bring strong capability in programme development, sequencing, phasing, progress review and reporting, helping clients and project teams understand constraints, manage risk and make informed delivery decisions.

This role will suit someone with experience in construction planning, scheduling or project controls within complex delivery environments, who enjoys working with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams. You will combine strong analytical skills, clear communication and a collaborative approach with the ability to apply planning good practice in a practical and delivery-focused way.

You will be able to demonstrate your understanding, skill and experience in the following areas:

  • Developing construction programmes and schedules from first principles, using quantities and production rates.
  • Applying construction planning expertise across design, construction and delivery stages of complex infrastructure and engineering projects. This includes reviewing progress, maintaining programmes and analysing data to forecast time and cost outcomes.
  • Preparing clear constructability and progress reports, and advising teams on issues, impacts and mitigation.
  • Developing phasing strategies and visual planning tools to communicate sequencing and constraints.
  • Using Primavera P6 and other planning tools effectively, with a good understanding of cost and resource loading.
