Job summary

Veson Nautical is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP. The role focuses on growing the GCP footprint, with cross-region and cross-cloud alignment, in a hybrid London-based environment.

You will lead greenfield projects, improve existing estates, and influence architectural direction while mentoring peers and collaborating with development teams to ensure reliability and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years on a large-scale SaaS platform; 24x7x365 operation.
• 5+ years of GCP experience with production workloads at scale.
• Production Kubernetes experience, especially GKE.
• Proficiency with Terraform and the GCP provider.
• Experience with Google Cloud networking: VPC, Load Balancing, Cloud CDN.
• Strong programming in Python, Go, or TypeScript.
• Ability to raise technical capability through mentorship and documentation.
• Track record building consensus across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate scalable, reliable infra on GCP and AWS.
• Lead greenfield builds and modernize existing infra toward common patterns.
• Solve cross-region, cross-account, cross-cloud problems (networking, identity, data movement).
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and config management (IaC).
• Establish monitoring, alerting, and observability practices.
• Mentor engineers to broaden GCP and multi-cloud capabilities.
• Partner with development teams to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Set technical direction via design reviews and architecture proposals.
• Improve incident response and prevent recurrence.
• Improve cloud cost effectiveness through visibility and architecture choices.
