Job description

Role Overview

Act as the lead RPA for specified areas/customers, providing expert radiation safety advice, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Serve as the lead Medical Physics Expert in Diagnostic Radiology, focusing on patient and staff safety, equipment assessment, and incident investigation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide advice on compliance with Ionising Radiations Regulations and assist with radiation risk assessments.
  2. Offer expert guidance on radiation safety, shielding, and engineering controls for new or modified facilities.
  3. Determine and interpret radiation doses and risks, using specialist instrumentation and knowledge.
  4. Review monitoring programs and interpret results to ensure regulatory compliance.
  5. Support other areas of RRPPS with radiation protection advice as needed.
  6. Lead in the optimisation of radiation protection, including the application of diagnostic reference levels.
  7. Advise on equipment specification, installation, and quality assurance for diagnostic x-ray facilities.
  8. Assess patient doses, investigate accidental exposures, and liaise with enforcement authorities.
  9. Train staff in radiation protection and IR(ME)R compliance.
  10. Assess research submissions for ethical approval.
  11. Participate in quality management systems, staff training, research, and development activities.
  12. Supervise and mentor scientific staff and trainees, including competency assessments.
  13. Contribute to research publications and presentations, supporting continuous improvement.
