Principal Clinical Psychologist (Band 7/8a)

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people and their families? Are you interested in changing perceptions, shaping neurodevelopmental assessment services, promoting positive outcomes for neuro-divergent young people and their families?

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Clinical Psychologist who has a strong interest in neurodiversity within our Doncaster Neurodevelopmental (ASD & ADHD ) assessment pathway. We have a permanent 7/8a developmental post with either full-time or part-time working hours. You will be required to undertake psychological assessments of children up to 18 years, as part of a wider team.

There are strong links with the Clinical Psychology training course at both the University of Sheffield and Hull.

This is an exciting time to be joining this service as the Neurodevelopmental pathways in the Children's care group have been working closely with our partner agencies to develop a more integrated and multi-agency/ disciplinary service. You will be joining a dynamic and supportive group of psychologists and other professionals who are committed to working within a compassionate framework where your development and well-being will be prioritised and encouraged.

Experience of assessment and working with ASD and ADHD would be desirable though not essential, applications are welcomed from recently qualified or soon to qualify Clinical Psychologists as well as established Clinical Psychologists.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to have excellent communication skills and will provide consultation to families, schools and other professional and agencies when there is Autism and/or ADHD queries. There will also be a requirement to undertake ADHD and Autism assessments and to consider differential diagnoses. You will have relevant demonstrable experience of working as a clinical psychologist or trainee clinical psychologist and of specialist psychological assessment and interventions of clients across the full range of care settings, along with experience of working in multi-agency teams and with a wide variety of client groups which reflect the full range of clinical severity. Formulation is key in the service that we provide and it is essential that you can demonstrate the ability to formulate a young person's strengths and needs. A Doctoral level knowledge of research and design and methodology is essential as is the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or core professional qualification (i.e. Nursing, AHP, Social Work) with psychotherapy training to doctorate level.
  • Relevant professional registration as a Psychological Professional
  • Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological therapies practice
  • Experienced in care co-ordination
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Additional post-doctoral training in working with psychosis
  • Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
Experience
  • Working as a psychological professional within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings.
  • Project Management
  • Experience of working with people with psychotic conditions
